Proves to be a Big Winner for the Community Colleges

With a
unique format that has the community colleges sharing the stage with some of the
best open/club teams and the high schools, the California Relays proved to be a
tremendous success. Over 2200 total entrants in the days events attracted large
crowds, and the community colleges impressed the spectators as well as the high
school programs that were in attendance.
West
LA's Ebony Collins showcased her talents as she won the women's 200 meters in an
impressive time of 23.64, defeating South Bay Track athlete and former Cerritos
College star April Brown in the process. Vivien Wadeck of Glendale improved her
state leading 1500 meter time to 4:38 and Cerritos' Whitney Ashley won the shot
with a throw of 42' 02".
On the
men's side, Sacramento's Pierien ran a fine time of 47.88 placing him third
overall in the men's 400 invitational section. Daniel Clifford-Sorenson of
Cerritos won the men's invitational 1500 running a 4:01.60 moving him into the
top three on the So Cal list. Matthew Prentice of San Bernardino won the men's
5000 in a time of 15:02, also moving him into the top three on the So Cal marks
list and Long Beach City's Marquan Jackson won the 110 high hurdles in a time of
14.78.
In the field events, Moorpark's Jimmie Pacifico won the shot put with a throw of
57'2" and West LA's Joel Childress won the javelin with a throw of 180' 10".
